Alternatives to spanking your child
In past generations physical punishment was often considered the only way to discipline a child. Times have changed and many people feel that physical abuse of another person in any form is unacceptable. Children learn more from what parents do than they do from what they say, so when children are spanked, they learn that hitting is acceptable which can lead to other aggressive behaviors. They also learn that it is ok for they, themselves to be hurt which is damaging to their self-esteem.

Below are some strategies for dealing with your child’s temper tantrums. Temper tantrums range from whining and crying to screaming, kicking, hitting, and breath holding. Dealing with aggressive children
Dealing with aggressive children
Dealing with aggressive children and some possible reasons as to why children may act out aggressively and how to appropriately channel or deal with their emotions. Although aggressive behavior such as hitting, screaming, and even biting is not seen as all that unusual from a child of one or two years of age, the same conduct in children merely a year or two older is often seen as cruel and problematic. Controlling feelings and emotions is, however, a learned skill and can be very difficult to master (even for some adults!).

How to teach children to read
How to teach children to read
Teaching your child to read can be one of the most worthwhile experiences you have as a parent. Many parents are initially concerned about whether they have what it takes to teach a child to read. If you are able to read yourself, then you have the tools you need to teach a child how to read. Crafts from milk cartons
Crafts from milk cartons
It was very simple, however, and took all of about 5 minutes to make. I used a long-life milk carton, but a tetra juice pak, a regular milk carton, or any box shape container would do. For wheels I just cut some (wobbly) circles out of some cardboard scraps. Pipecleaners made great axles and I simply threaded the wheels like buttons and ...

Sibling Rivalry
Sibling Rivalry
Bill Cosby once said, "You aren't really a parent until you've had your second child." Parents of one child won't really understand this. Parents of two or more children will relate to this statement immediately. He was referring to the seemingly constant bickering and fighting between brothers and sisters. However, having more than one child can provide opportunities for them to learn many things. They are learning how to share, how to be a friend, how to love and get along with others, and how to cooperate among themselves in relation to their brothers and sisters. There are many positive aspects to family life with more than one child, although many parents would say, "Not in my family!"

Stranger Danger
Stranger Danger
When it comes to child predators and stranger safety, many parents focus on "stranger danger," when in actuality most victims of child predators are targeted by people they already know. It’s better to replace the word “stranger” with “tricky person”. It’s not what someone looks like, it’s what they say or want to do with a child that makes them unsafe or “tricky”. A tricky person can be someone your child knows well, doesn’t know at all, or knows just a little bit… like your mail carrier or the ice cream man. Anyone who tries to get a child to break their safety rules or hurt their body is not okay.

Choking
Choking
When a child is choking, it means that an object — usually food or a toy — is lodged in the trachea (the airway) and is keeping air from flowing normally into or out of the lungs. The trachea is usually protected by a small flap of cartilage called the epiglottis. The trachea and the esophagus share an opening at the back of the throat, and the epiglottis acts like a lid, snapping shut over the trachea each time a person swallows. It allows food to pass down the esophagus and prevents it from going down the trachea. But every once in a while, the epiglottis doesn't close fast enough and an object can slip into the trachea. This is what happens when something goes "down the wrong pipe."
